Dr. Emily Lenning ~ Member At Large #1 ~ 2018-2019
Dr. Emily Lenning is a Professor of Criminal Justice at Fayetteville State University. She co-founded FSU’s Safezone Office, making FSU the 3rd historically Black college or university (HBCU) in the nation to open an office dedicated to serving it’s LGBTQ* students. She also serves as the faculty advisor for Spectrum, FSU’s LGBTQ* student organization. Emily’s research primarily focuses on the intersectional experiences of LGBTQ* folks in the criminal legal system as victims, offenders, and practitioners. Her most recent book, Queer Criminology, was awarded the 2016 book award by the American Society of Criminology’s Division on Critical Criminology & Social Justice. In 2017 Emily’s passion for teaching earned her the UNC Board of Governors Award for Excellence in Teaching. When she isn’t in the classroom or engaging in community service, Emily enjoys spending time with her wife, hanging out with her friends, binge-watching crime series, and spoiling her dog Daphne.
